Chesapeake (AA County) goes undefeated

No. 16 Chesapeake of Anne Arundel County finished 10-0 at the Westminster Duals tournament last weekend, defeating No. 8 Manchester Valley 48-20 and No. 22 Liberty 66-12 along the way.

Strong performances were put in by Carson Roberts (120), 10-0, Dominic Ayres (132), 9-0, Bently Schmidt (113) 8-0, Brayden Roberts (126) 8-0, Michael Greenstreet (106/113) 7-0, Xander Dodd (215) 6-0, Hunter Wargo (106) 6-0, Ethan Mills (144) 9-1, Owen Collins (150) 9-1, Rex Graves (138) 6-1, Jonas Dotson (285) 8-2, Collin Richardson (165) 6-2, and Trevor Webb (157) 6-2.

Carson Roberts (21-0 on the season) pinned Queen Anne's Alan MacDonald, and Quin Greenstreet (13-1 on the season), decisioned Kayden Reid of Manchester Valley.  Greenstreet's only loss on the season is to Austin Hayes of Eleanor Roosevelt at 113.

“We knew going in that Manchester Valley would be the toughest match,” Chesapeake coach Randy Curtin said. “The match started at 120 and gave us a good feeling early on with Dominic Ayres majoring Dakota Barnard at 132, and Rex Graves tech falling Ryan Hydorn at 138.  From there, the match continued to go well until the end, with Quin Greenstreet defeating Reid at 106.”

“Right now, things are clicking for us. But the wrestling season is a marathon, and it is still only December.  We hope to keep the momentum up through the rest of the season.”

Crofton, who is unranked by Legacy Wrestling, also finished 10-0 at the tournament. Chesapeake claimed first place based on the overall team points tiebreaker. Crofton’s exploits included wins over No. 8 Manchester Valley, No. 22 Liberty, and No. 29 Rising Sun.

“What a crazy weekend in the world of Crofton Wrestling!” exclaimed Crofton coach Jason West. “We went up to Westminster Duals with maybe the fullest line up we’ve had all season (still down a piece or two). We ended up going 10-0 on the weekend, placing second on tie breakers to Chesapeake who also went 10-0. We took out three state ranked teams including a 40-38 come from behind win over Manchester Valley to secure that second-place finish! I could not be more proud of the squad and the direction they are heading.”
