Eleanor Roosevelt crowned third-ranked repeat champion sophomore Austin Hayes (106), 15th-ranked junior Leo Foreman (144) and junior Ediz Buchin (150) among four finalists as the Raiders overcame runner-up Frederick Douglass, 206-to-195 for their second straight Prince George's County Tournament title.

The Raiders are coached by Austin's father, Cortez Hayes, who has guided the Raiders since 1996, also earning county tournament titles in 2019 and 2022. The Raiders were also regional dual meet champions in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022.

Hayes earned his second straight crown while improving to 29-0 with a 92-second fall against Bladensburg sophomore Jalahuddin Amani, who slipped to 25-3.

Foreman ran his record to 26-0, improving on last year's runner-up finish with a 20-0 technical Fall over Bladensburg senior Israel Smith, whose record slipped to 13-1.

Buchin improved his record this season to 22-4, doing so with a 44-second fall against Frederick Douglass junior Gerald Carter, a returning fifth-place finisher whose record is now 26-6.

Ranked 23rd, Raiders' senior Steven Faniyi (120) was a runner-up for the second straight year following his 13-7 championship loss to sophomore Ajmal Rahmani of Parkdale, whose record is 9-0. Faniyi was fifth at regions after going 27-4 last season.

A returning Class 4A-3A South Regional champion, Hayes lost his 106-pound state title bout, 10-8, to South River's Jackson Peoples. Hayes ended last year with a record of 40-1 after losing to Peeples, a sophomore two-time Anne Arundel County champion who is currently ranked 10th at 113 pounds.

Austin can become only the Raiders’ second state champion along with Chilbueze Onwuka. Onwuka was a 220-pound state champion in 2016, defeating Cornell Wilson of Paint Branch, 4-2, in overtime.

“Finally, after a year of hard work I have the opportunity to finish what I started,” said Austin Hayes, an A-average student. “I've traveled around the U.S. to train so that I can become one of the best wrestlers. I will make sure to achieve great things this year, starting with being a state champion."

“I have worked restlessly over the past three years to ensure that I can become the most polished and experienced wrestler that I can be. Right now, I am seeing the return on investment of my work," said Foreman, who was a regional champion and finished last season with a record of 37-5.

"I truly believe that my work on the mat speaks volumes about my work ethic and mental fortitude. I owe it all to my family, my coaches and my teammates. Without them, I wouldn’t be in the position I am in now to succeed. Of course, I am excited for this victory, but I am even more excited for the following weeks and to prove myself at the state tournament."

The runner-up Eagles crowned ninth-ranked senior Glen Vinson (190), a returning third-place county finisher at 175 pounds last season who was a regional champion and fourth-place finisher at Class 2A-1A states.

Vinson improved his record on the season to 9-1 with a 13-5 championship victory that dethroned 23rd-ranked senior John Adeniyi of Charles H. Flowers. Adeniyi's record is 23-4.

Bowie crowned top-ranked three-time champion senior Jamil Morrow (215) and sophomore Jeffrey Archer (126), as the latter improved his record to 34-6 with a 13-6 victory over Frederick Douglass senior Noah Walker, who is 23-4.

A third-place county finisher as a freshman, Morrow improved to 33-1 with a 20-1 over Suitland's Patrick Kamden, who slipped to 27-2. Morrow went 37-0 last year, earning the Class 4A-3A state title, and can become only the third Bulldogs' wrestler to win a pair of state titles.

Wise crowned 15th-ranked senior Taylor Brown (285), Dorian Jordan (157) and Jordan Hicks (175), while Laurel had a repeat county champion in senior Christian Argueta (113), who improved to 15-0 with a 20-10 title match major decision over Bladensburg sophomore Sayed Hashemi.

A returning regional champion who went 25-2 last season, Brown improved on last year's runner-up effort, running his record on the year to 20-0 with a 72-second championship bout pin against junior Jeremiah Reynolds of Frederick Douglass.

Hicks ran his record on the year to 29-1 with a 9-1 major decision over Fairmont Heights senior David Akinsunlola, a returning third place county and fourth-place regional finisher down from 190 pounds whose record is 24-3.

Jordan improved to 27-3 following his 8-3 title match decision over Bowie junior Carter Tucker, who was third at counties last year.

Other champions were Potomac sophomore Cyrus Felton (132), Flowers junior Enitan Ajayi (138) and Parkdale's Lazara Toralba (165).

Felton scored a 14-2 major decision over Frederick Douglass junior Braylon Pippins. Ajayi improved to 27-2 with a 17-2 technical fall against Laurel sophomore Caldwell Ford. Toralba is 5-0 following his 17-4 major decision over Duval's Angel Flores.
