MSWA @ Queen Anne's - 16U Results!

On April 19th, the MSWA held its final Freestyle and Greco Roman Open Tournaments at Queen Anne’s High School. Next for interested grapplers are the Olympic Style States at Loyola-Blakefield on May 17th.
Oakdale’s Paul Fitzpatrick, a fourth-place state placer at 106 in 4A/3A, was the most high-profile grappler in the 16U Division. Fitzpatrick finished the season rated 13th at 106-pounds and had little trouble with Owen Vallone (Get Fit), winning by technical superiority in FS at 113-pounds, 14-4. Fitzpatrick also handled Vallone by tech in GR with an 8-0 count in the 106-113 weight.
KeShon Bryant (Charles H. Flowers) doubled down on titles as well, taking the GR gold at 144-pounds with a 10-0 tech of Anthony Free from Get Fit of Harford County. Like Fitzpatrick, Bryant faced the same foe to decide the champ in FS as GR, Free, who he won two straight against at 150-157, 10-0 both times.
Prince George’s County would see one more FS champ in Bowie’s Jeffrey Archer (138-144), who put an 8-2 decision over runner-up Kenson Noel-3 (Georgetown Prep) on the brackets. Noel-3 pinned Havre de Grace’s former 2A/1A state placer Vincent Kirby, 3:48, to win a GR gold at 132-138.
Kirby would also place second in FS, falling to Bethesda’s Braxton Bohinc, 13-3, at 132 pounds. A second Bethesda junior leaguer won the 106-pound FS title with two consecutive wins over The Compound’s Nick Palanker, by fall, 1:10 and by tech, 10-0.
A middle school kid, Dominique Herbert, went home as a FS and GR champ for Rampage after teching Maryland Predator’s Ethan Swank, 10-0 at 126-pounds in FS. The Greco gold also came on a shutout tech, 8-0, at 120-126 versus Annapolis’ Blake Gezelle, who was third in the Anne Arundel County Junior Varsity Tournament.
The final 16U champion came from Ashburn, Virginia, Ivan Fiel, with back-to-back 10-0 techs of Williamsport’s Jaden Shoemaker in the FS 165-175-pound field.
