MSWA @ Queen Anne's - 19U Results!

On April 19th, the MSWA held its final Freestyle and Greco Roman Open Tournaments at Queen Anne’s High School. Next for interested grapplers are the Olympic Style States at Loyola-Blakefield on May 17th.

Starring in the 19U slate was Eastern Tech’s two-time state placer (3rd in 2A/1A this year), Chase Ullmann (No. 10 at 132), who was representing Outsiders Wrestling Club. Ullmann won the 144-pound FS crown by technical superiority, 14-4, over North Caroline’s Caleb Melvin. Ullmann added a GR title (138-144) to his haul with a tech fall, 9-0, of Havre de Grace’s Santiago Perdomo, who competed for Get Fit out of Harford County.

Broadneck’s Miguel E. Caban was one of three Anne Arundel County wrestlers to win FS gold. Caban was the only double champ, claiming the 120–126-pound bracket 14-4 over Quince Orchard’s Benjamin Hersh. Caban handled Stephen Decatur’s Gavin McBride, 10-0 and 8-0, in a best of three battle at 120-pounds in GR.

Archbishop Spalding’s seventh place private school state placer Ryder Kolat (No. 9 at 150) blanked Eleanor Roosevelt’s Ediz Buchin, 10-0, to win the 150-157 wall chart. Northeast of Anne Arundel saw Blake Harris used a 41 second pin of Mason Long (Rising Sun) to lock down top honors at 132-138-pounds. Harris also pinned Eleanor Roosevelt’s Stephen Faniyi (No. 19 at 120) with six ticks left on the clock, 5:54, in round robin matches.

DeMatha’s William Martin reached the blood round at 165-pounds at the MIS states and easily handled Stephen Decatur’s Alex Riehl, 10-0, at 165-190 in FS. Riehl would win a GR crown at 157-175 with a 16-8 tech of Buchin. Another Seahawk locked down a FS title at 215-285 when Malaki Mason teched Patterson Mill’s Gavin Voelker of Maverick’s Wrestling.

Voelker did win a GR gold at 215 pounds when he swept Quince Orchard’s Aleksander Malinowski with a fall (4:46) and a 9-1 technical fall. Fellow UCBAC competitor, Long of Rising Sun posted an 8-0 tech in GR over Hersh to win the 126-132 championship.
