MSWA @ Queen Anne's -- Girls Results

On April 19th, the MSWA held its final Freestyle and Greco Roman Open Tournaments at Queen Anne’s High School. Next for interested grapplers are the Olympic Style States at Loyola-Blakefield on May 17th.

There were just four contested weight classes on the girls’ side of things, with three of them coming in the 19U variety. Easter Tech’s state runner-up, Ariana Carnahan (115-120) won a battle of Baltimore County grapplers by sticking Dundalk’s Emily Cabo (No. 11 at 115), 1:15.

Cabo pinned Patterson Mill’s third-place finisher, Sarah Alkhatib (No. 12 at 110), in 47 seconds. Carnahan teched Alkhatib, 10-0. Carnahan, who is repping Outsiders, is ranked second in the state at 110-pounds following her state silver showing, although she did beat the girl who took her out at states, Havre de Grace’s Madison Birth at the MAWA South Region Tournament recently.

Carnahan’s high school teammate, Alize Franze placed second at 130-pounds after losing two in a row to Stephen Decatur’s Irie Carmack (No. 8 at 120), 12-1 and by pin, 1:34. Baltimore County had a third girls’ silver medalist in the 19U groupings with Patapsco’s Gianna Guarnera (No. 12 at 135), who lost to Eleanor Roosevelt’s third place state finisher, Jennifer Djobo, who is ranked third at 120-pounds. Djobo decked Guarnera in 19 seconds for the glory at 140-145.

Both had their way with Patterson Mill’s Aubrey Goble (No. 10 at 140) sending her to a third-place finish with both defeating Goble, 10-0.

In 16U action, Northwood’s Ashley Diaz, who is unranked in the state, got the best of a state ranked wrestler from Stephen Decatur, Calleigh McBride (No. 11 at 100), with a 1:16 pin to place first at 110-120-pounds.
