RESULTS: MSWA @ Spalding (Girls Edition)

Last Sunday, April 13th, the MSWA held their second Freestyle and Greco Roman Open Tournaments at Archbishop Spalding. The third and final open is slated for this weekend (April 19th) at Queen Anne’s High School. These culminate in the Freco state tournament at Loyola-Blakefield on May 17th.

The Girls filled out six total weight classes with three in each age group. Leading the 19U Freestyle Champions was Legacy Wrestling’s Middle Weight of the Year Sonia Pegoue of Walter Johnson. Pegoue is top rated at 145lbs where she won a state title and added the 130-140 title here with two wins over Smithburg’s Isabella Cox, 13-2 and 13-8.

Walkersville’s Alexis Nicholas (No. 3 at 120) won by tech fall versus the runner-up from Winters Mill, Christina Padilla (No. 10 at 110), 11-0, for the crown in the 115-130 collective. The final 19U gold was claimed by No. 11 Erin Wright (Arundel) against Richard Montgomery’s Emma Higgs at 170lbs, with pins in 2:36 and 1:14.

On the 16U side, Danica Brown (Mount Vernon) won the 135-140lb bracket with two straight wins over No. 8 Grace Reilly of Bel Air, 11-8 and 9-6. Walkersville’s Alexis Nicholas (No. 3 at 120) swept West Virginia’s Arianna Tucker (EP Rattlers), 14-7 and 11-0, for the 130lb gold.

The last 16U champ, Northwood’s Ashley Diaz (No. 15 at 120), did it in the 110-120lb gathering by twice pinning Elisse Vollmer (Mavericks Wrestling), 1:51 and :43.
